Brunswick North West Primary School enjoys a high level of community involvement and support. The role of our School Council, the sub-committees and working groups play a vital role in the life and growth of the school.
The School Council is a representative body that brings together parents, staff and community members to help shape the strategic direction of our school. The Council meets around eight times a year, working closely with the Principal and School Leadership Team to ensure our school continues to provide the best possible learning environment for all students and a welcoming place for our community. It is a fantastic way for parents to have a direct hand in shaping school life, strengthening our community and enhancing student experiences.
What does the School Council do?
Some of the key functions are:
- Establishing the broad vision and strategic direction for the school through the process of reflecting on past performance, establishing future directions and deciding what will constitute success;
- Managing resources, including budgets, contracts and maintaining the school’s grounds and buildings;
- Building and maintaining community interest and engagement, including but not limited to seeking the views and experiences of the wider community and reporting annually to the community and the Department.
Our Sub-Committees
Much of the School Council’s work is carried out through our sub-committees and working groups, which focus on key areas of school life:
Builds school spirit, upholding the values of the school – specifically “connection” through events that build and support a sense of belonging.
Inform the community of education approaches to further engage parents and carers and celebrate and promote educational success.
Encourage the participation of the school community in the maintenance and improvement of the schools’ precious grounds and buildings through working bees and mobilising resources.
Act as a representative voice for OSHC families, facilitating communication between families, staff and the school community to ensure a quality facility and service.
Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
Our School Council is also proud to be progressing and monitoring our RAP which commits us to meaningful steps towards recognising and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
